There are a few things you should know when ascending heroes. There are two types of heroes: Legendary tier and Ascended tier. You can find a full list of each type of hero at Hero > Portraits. Legendary tier heroes are also known as fodder heroes because they are the only heroes you can have at blue/rare ascension. Legendary tier heroes can only reach Legendary+ as their highest ascension tier and are capped at leveling to 160 because of this. We recommend ascending 5 legendary tier heroes initially in order to get your Resonating Crystal to level 160. The benefit of using Legendary tier heroes is that you can later fodder them easily unlike Ascended tier heroes that you will be stuck with for a long time.

Even though you ascend these 5 heroes, they may not be the ones that you use on your main team. You can use the resonating crystal to level heroes past their level caps. Here you can see that Elite+ heroes are higher level than their max of 120 because they are on the resonating crystal (Heroes on resonating crystal have their level in blue text). In this example, my main team was Mirael Lucius Rowan Rosaline Fawkes.

If you’ve read the guide up to this point, you should be ascending those Legendary tier heroes instead of Ascended tier, but when it comes time to ascend the Ascended tier heroes there are some common mistakes you need to watch out for. To ascend a hero to Legendary+, Mythic or Mythic+ you need four copies of that hero. To completely ascend them to Ascended, you need 8 copies. One of the biggest mistakes is ascending heroes without these copies and as a result wasting fodder. Ascending many heroes to legendary without copies will get you stuck with a max level of 140 and no fodder to ascend those Legendary tier heroes to get past 140.

As great as Fodder heroes are, they have a max ascension of Legendary+ and a max level of 160. Eventually you’ll need to work on those Ascended tier heroes. Past level 160, your next goal is getting 5 ascended heroes which will let you break your crystal and level heroes past 240. If you hadn’t noticed by now, the main idea of ascensions was working around level caps, that ends here. The goal is to ascend 1 hero in each faction, 2 for your primary faction (Graveborn for most people). What you ascend largely depends on what you pull, but here are some of the ideal candidates.

You may notice that a few of the heroes are highlighted in red, those are the carries. While you can usually work around rng and ascend anything you get copies of (even if it’s not ideal), you need at least 1 carry with ascensions so that you can keep them a higher level than the rest of your team. Also, there are many carries, but Daimon is the strongest early game, keep an eye out for him.
